What is OHSAS 18001?
OHSAS 18001:2007 is an occupational health and safety management standard. It defines a set of requirements related to the effective management and implementation of an occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS).
The new OHSAS 18001:2007 standard was published during July of 2007. It replaces OHSAS 18001:1999. OHSAS 18001 applies to all types of organisations, designed in a way that businesses large or small can maintain their OH&S systems effectively.
OHSAS 18001 was designed to help organisations to manage and control their OH&S risks and through continual improvement and monitoring, improve their OH&S performance.
The OHSAS standard was created in a way that it can fit in with other management systems such as ISO 9001 & ISO 14001, either being operated as a stand alone entity or as part of a larger integrated system.
